This 6-villa hotel, set amongst the mangroves, looks to engage with the land and community. Encouraging guests to slow down and be present with the comings and goings of nature and the Mozambican pace of life.
Located on a peninsular flanked by a lagoon and the Indian Ocean, and only accessible by 4-wheel drive, Sussurro is the epitome of remote. Working with the location, rather than against it, this project became a study in Southern African vernacular architecture and local craft.
Featuring a palette of local stone, site-woven thatched roofs, locally felled mangrove poles, hand strung furniture and local pottery, this project immerses guests in the site and surrounding nature.
